Description

Debut from Bristol DJ and producer fka boursin, previously known as DJ Boursin (pronounced bore-san).

Across 29 minutes, Comatose dives deep into the sounds best suited to the twilight hours of the club as entropy hits maximum. The title is a subtle reference to the Comatonse label run by Terre Thaemlitz, and the production styles found here make direct homage to the long-form, patient and politically-active dance tracks made under the DJ Sprinkles moniker. Thanks for letting us steal your shit, Terre! Originally conceived in 2016, the EP explores themes of the inadequacies of dancefloors as a modes of transmission for specific political messaging. As a result of club spaces being relegated to places of escapism – reinforced by the mainstream political discourse centred around the liberalisation of drug use – dancefloors are seldom places of engagement but rather focal points for hedonism, energy and euphoria. Comatose is a gentle nudge in the opposite direction, borne out of the desire to play soft, slow and inevitably, to an empty dancefloor.
